Masa Israel Grant

Masa Israel Journey offers grants and scholarships to Jewish individuals, 21-30, who have previously not participated in a 5+ month program in Israel. If you have ever been in Israel for longer than a 4 month period you are not eligible to receive Masa funding. If you are under the age of 21 there are also scholarships available from Masa.

    • The Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto has  limited funds to assist its graduates who wish to pursue post-secondary Judaic studies in Israel. There are two separate programs, one designed for teacher training and the other for those with other career plans. Applicants must be graduates of Associated Hebrew Schools Middle School and have attended Associated for at least two years; propose to enroll in a full year program in Israel, which is approved by the Scholarship Committee.

    • JEWISHcolorado is offering a limited number of stipends which will be awarded on a competitive basis to teens and young adults participating in peer group trips to Israel in 2014. The stipends will be awarded to those applicants who demonstrate an ability and willingness to become ambassadors for Israel in Colorado upon their return. The Committee’s award decisions will be largely based on the applicant’s essay. Stipend is eligible for Jewish teens and young adults between the ages of 16 and 30 who are Colorado residents and Jewish teens and young adults with a proven ability for leadership, involvement and creativity.     • The Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass has a small fund for Israel experience scholarships that can be used for young people from high school and up. Grants are usually between $500 and $1000. Applicants can call the federation and are sent application materials.

    • The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit offers a needs-based and incentive grant.  The incentive grant is for participants up to age 26 and the need-based grant is for applicants up to 28 years of age. Only one grant may be selected and this is a one-time only grant opportunity.  To be eligible for grants, applicants must be Jewish residents of Metro Detroit between 13 and 28 years old and participating in a program for 12 months or less.     • The Israel Program Center of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation offers two scholarships. The Isadore and Molly Boroff Israel Scholarship – a scholarship for Minneapolis residents ages 18-30 who want to do a Masa-approved program. Maximum grant amount is determined based on cost of the program. There are three application rounds – December (for Spring semester programs), April (for programs starting in the coming summer/fall) and July (for programs starting in the coming fall). The Israel Center Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship based on household income. Eilat Harel handles these applications.

    • The Greensboro Jewish Federation offers the Jacke W. and Lottie K. Samet Israel Experience Scholarship Fund. The purpose of the fund is to enable Jewish youth living in Guilford County to participate in travel, study and/or cultural peer-group programs in Israel sponsored by Jewish agencies. Financial need and merit are the primary considerations in awarding grants. Applications area accepted on a rolling basis.

  • Charlotte

    • The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte offers scholarships to residents of Mecklenburg or adjacent counties in Charlotte, NC between the ages of 20-29. Applicant must submit a completed application to Federation for review and approval. Upon returning from their trip, the recipient agrees to write a report to the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte sharing their impressions of their experience and, if requested, to speak to the Jewish Federation Board of Trustees. Applicant and/or their family are financially responsible for a minimum of $500 of the program fees/expenses.

    • The Jewish Federation of Rhode Island offers financial aid open to Rhode Island residents.  College age, college students and post-graduates may apply for a grant for a year-long, semester, summer program or one of shorter duration. The Leonard I. Salmanson Fund scholarships are based on the incentive grant model and are not need-based. However, need-based financial aid is also available from this fund. The Marochnack Zionist Memorial Scholarship offers financial aid to students, especially those who are recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

    • Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga offers grants up to $2,500 for year programs and $1,500 for summer programs per applicant (up to one-half of the program cost).     • The Harold Grinspoon Foundation offers scholarships to adult (individuals and college student) residents of Southern Vermont counties Windham and Bennington, age 19 years up, for one trip to Israel every three years. A qualifying program is for travel or study under the auspices of an approved Jewish organization or institution that includes high-impact, meaningful Jewish content. Applicants can may receive up to $1,000 per person.

Nationwide Funding Options:

  • The Amy Adine Schulman Scholarship Fund– This grant requires a commitment to educate others through lecture, program or other activities upon returning to your home or school community. You must be willing and able to do this so others will have the opportunity to learn about and to be inspired to do similar work. Click here for more information.

 

  • Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship Fund – The American Zionist Movement grants scholarships to a limited number of students for study in Israel. Scholarship recipients uphold a standard of excellence, demonstrating past pro-Israel activity and a commitment to future involvement with Israel and the Jewish community. Financial need will also be considered, though more emphasis will be placed on merit. Click here for more information.

 

  • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program – The Gilman Scholarship Program provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two- or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.   • Boren Scholarship – Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad who will contribute to U.S. national security, broadly defined.   • Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund – The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to university students who are part of the progressive movement on campus or the community, actively working for peace and justice. Click here for more information.

 

  • Fulbright Scholarship – The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Click here for more information.

 

  • Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture – This fund is for independent scholarly, literary, or art projects done in Israel. Please inquire regarding the deadline. Click here for more information.

 

  • Schusterman Scholarship – Up to seven scholarships will be awarded to students studying in the University of California EAP program in Israel. Students from all UC campuses will be competing for these scholarships. Awards will be up to $2,000 for semester participants and up to $5,000 for year participants.
